The Art Institutes at SIGGRAPH

The Art Institutes boasts roughly 2000 square feet of combined classroom and general exhibit space, an interactive digital art class, and award-winning design presentations using industry-related technology during SIGGRAPH 2007. Enlightening and educational presentations on a variety of topics from faculty members are taking place in Booth 1215.

Academy Award-winning animation producer/director and Art Institute of Portland Artist-in-Residence, Will Vinton, presents at The Art Institutes booth on Wednesday, August 8, at 9:30 a.m. Vinton coined the phrase Claymation, and went on to introduce several new brands of animation to audiences across the globe by launching the careers of the California Raisins, as seen on TV.

Novice and intermediate computer users alike learn how to use the computer as a tool in creating dynamic gesture drawings under the tutelage of three-time Emmy winner and Art Institute of Portland instructor Liz Holzman. Using the Wacom tablet and Adobe Photoshop, artists learn how to concentrate on drawing quick poses of the model, emphasizing volumes and gesture.

The Art Institutes Digital Photography Class at Booth 1215 teaches attendees to use Adobe Photoshop CS2 and CS3 tools to enhance a photograph. They gain an understanding of the RAW module, as well as simple selection techniques and creative uses of Photoshop's filters to achieve desired effects.

At The Art Institutes Life Drawing Class, attendees explore the differences between using digital technology and traditional tools in the process of life drawing. A variety of strategies are studied to help artists understand the benefits of using new media. Visitors get familiar with dynamic gesture drawing and the creation of compositions involving multiple figures in deep space.

Johan Klingler, instructor at The Art Institute of Dallas, demonstrates how to build stronger composition in both reality and fantasy with Maya.

Visitors have the opportunity to receive a complementary video game, SHANKE, The Art Institutes Video Game, a modern-day jousting game produced by students from The Art Institute of Phoenix. The Video Game will be distributed at The Art Institutes booth on Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:45 am, 12:45 pm, and 2:45 pm, and on Thursday at 12:45 pm, 1:45 pm, and 2:45 pm.

The Art Institutes (www.artinstitutes.edu), is a system of 36 locations throughout North America providing an important source of design, media arts, fashion, and culinary arts professionals.
