Winning Teams Revealed for Framestore VFX Competition

Framestore has announced the next stage of its “remote internship,” with seven teams selected for a bespoke program of expert guidance, mentoring and support from the Oscar-winning creative studio.
Over 100 teams applied to take part in the competition, with seven outstanding groups of VFX wunderkinds making the final cut. The competition calls on artists to craft an original 30-second film in either full CG or using a combination of CG and live action on the theme of "The Future of VFX." Working remotely, the chosen teams will have eight weeks to produce a concept, project plan and finished film.

The winners each benefit from a dedicated mentor, a robust training program showcasing the ins-and-outs of each department as well as weekly socials. They will also have the chance to win several prizes and the biggest reward of all: an opportunity to land a job at Framestore's Montreal or London offices.

The panel of esteemed judges includes Christian Manz, Creative Director, Chloë Grysole, Managing Director of Framestore’s Montreal studio, Suzanne Jandu, Head of 2D for Advertising, Will Bartlett, Executive Creative Director and Anne Fossier from the The Quebec Film and Television Council.

“Our Launchpad internship has been a successful stepping stone for aspiring artists to get first-hand experience into the world of visual effects for 15 years now”, says Amy Smith, Framestore’s Global Head of Talent, Film. “While many companies have been forced to close their internship schemes altogether due to coronavirus we’re pleased to have been able to find a solution that supports the next generation of artists and helps them deepen their knowledge within this new work from home reality.” “We’d also like to thank our suppliers and partners Autodesk, Foundry, SideFX and Simple Cloud Animation for providing tools for our interns.”

The Launchpad Internship Competition is specifically for recent VFX grads with little to no practical work experience within the industry.
