NEW YORK CITY — Creative technology and VFX studio The Mill (www.themill.com) has launched a new virtual production system - Mill Mascot - that will help meet clients’ needs for fast and intelligent characters. Mill Mascot enables broadcast quality CG characters that are performed - rather than animated - live and in realtime.
Realtime game engine technology with motion sensors allows characters to be animated through hand and facial gestures on the fly. The system by-passes the lengthy timelines involved with traditional animation and pre-rendered content, reducing animation and rendering time down to 42 milliseconds per frame.
The ability to interact with CG characters and create animations on the spot is well suited for social media content featuring brand mascots, as well as for live performances and episodic entertainment. The development of Mill Mascot is part of The Mill’s commitment to re-define the future of the industry by pursuing, researching and developing product solutions that help tell better stories.
