Jungle Book wins VFX Oscar; Zootopia takes Animated Feature

LOS ANGELES — The 89th Academy Awards were presented on Sunday, February 26th, and  La La Land,   with its 14 nominations going into the night, finished with six Oscar statuettes (almost 7!) by the time the ceremony had ended. The film was honored for Directing (Damien Chazelle), Cinematography (Linus Sandgren), Score (Justin Hurwitz), Song (Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul), Production Design (David Wasco & Sandy Reynolds-Wasco), and for its leading actress Emma Stone. Best Picture, however, went to   Moonlight,   which also won in the Supporting Actor category (Mahershala Ali).
The film was honored for Directing (Damien Chazelle), Cinematography (Linus Sandgren), Score (Justin Hurwitz), Song (Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul), Production Design (David Wasco & Sandy Reynolds-Wasco), and for its leading actress Emma Stone. Best Picture, however, went to Moonlight, which also won in the Supporting Actor category (Mahershala Ali).



Kubo and the Two Strings, which was nominated in both the Visual Effects category and the Animated Feature category, won neither. Instead, The Jungle Book won the Best Visual Effects Oscar (Robert Legato, Adam Valdez, Andrew R. Jones & Dan Lemmon), and Zootopia took home the top Animated Feature honor (Byron Howard, Rich Moore and Clark Spencer).

Hacksaw Ridge was honored in the Editing category (John Gilbert), as well as for Sound Mixing (Kevin O’Connell, Andy Wright, Robert Mackenzie & Peter Grace).
