SIGGRAPH 06 Detroit to Boston: The Great American Roadtrip

The Southeast Michigan Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH (SEMAFX) is bringing some of Michigan's creative talent on the ...

road to Boston to attend the 2006 ACM SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics Convention. The trip features a vinyl graphics wrapped luxury coach with a distinct message that Michigan is the place for creative work to be done and will be part of Autodesk's "Make the Story Come Alive" campaign. A launch party is scheduled for Friday July 28, 2 PM to 5 PM, at the parking lot of Schoolcraft College's VistaTech Center with a departure set at 5 PM.

47 Geeks, 7 Days, 5 States and 1 Conference equals SEMAFX's Great American Roadtrip. A trip that starts in Michigan and ends up in Boston for seven days to take in the SIGGRAPH 2006 Conference before returning to Michigan. SIGGRAPH 2006 is the 33rd International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques.

The Conference is being held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston. SIGGRAPH 2006 is expected to have more than 20,000 attendees and more than 250 exhibitors with numerous classes, panels and displays of technology, art, and animation. By bringing some of Michigan's considerable digital arts talent SEMAFX is furthering it mission to educate and network the workforce, and increase awareness of the capabilities of Michigan's digital creative industry.

It's no secret the Michigan's economy appears to be struggling when compared to the rest of the US. However Michigan's creative industry is growing and expanding. We will be using a vinyl graphics wrapped bus as a marketing tool to attract the attention of conference attendees and the people of Boston for a week to tout Michigan as a cool creative place with a talented and growing workforce and industry. The creative industry is not limited, but includes the following creative services: film and video editing, advertising, motion graphics & animation, medical visualizations, Web development and design, architectural visualizations, simulations, mobile gaming, product design and rendering, photo retouching, and graphic design & Illustration.

Current sponsors for the Great American Roadtrip are Autodesk, Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Big Idea Magazine, nPower, Schoolcraft College, and Detroit Creative Group.
