Braid Art Labs Introduces GroBoto 3D Art and Animation Software

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Braid Art Labs LLP announced GroBoto, its 3D art and animation software for creating complex, dynamic, lyrical forms and animation. It combines artistic expression with interactive exploration of 3D form and motion.

Designed to enable fast, fluid 3D imaging and animation, GroBoto is easy to use and targeted at artists who aren't steeped in the technical aspects of digital 3D. Moreover, its quality-to-speed ratio benefits graphics and video professionals who require high-resolution, high-quality imagery.

Intelligent, algorithmic drawing tools called Bots create unique geometric forms ranging from organic, to abstract, to architectural. Bot behaviors, drawing shapes, and textures are adjustable in real time. The user can create and save unlimited Bot variations.

A Kinetic Morphing animation system produces sophisticated, complex, fluid motion automatically, based on a few Bot keyframes. The software also provides real-time, intuitive, relational editing of objects with perfect antialiasing, textures, fog, and cast shadows from multiple light sources. Objects can be grouped, reshaped, or aligned to the surfaces of other objects -- all in real time at full render quality with cast shadows.

Users can perfectly render smooth shapes and surfaces at any scale. Except for export, there are no polygons in GroBoto, freeing the user from the demands of polygonal systems. Proprietary conformal texture mapping technology creates artifact-free textures with no distortion. Seamless, patternless, tiled textures are built from any TIFF file with no need to define UV mapping or projection schemes. It also provides OBJ export with options for grouping and tessellation. GroBoto’s geometry is procedural, so it can be exported with any desired polygon resolution.

Optional rendering modes include alpha (RGB + alpha), depth (Z) alpha (unmultiplied RGB + Z) ,and depth composite alpha (multiplied RGB + Z) to TIFF for both still and sequential image output. Output to TIFF, JPEG, BMP (PC), AVI (PC), and QuickTime (Mac).

GroBoto is available now as a Universal binary for Mac OS X (10.4 or later) or Windows XP with an introductory price of $79. A 30-day demo is also available.
