New Video Toaster from NewTek

The new Toaster is optimized for the Intel Pentium 4 processor, which makes it possible for the product to process multiple streams of real-time, uncompressed video for editing, live switching, or streaming to the Internet. Toaster runs on off-the-shelf workstations. "Everything is performed in software," says NewTek's Video Toaster product manager, Paul Lara.

Video Toaster 2 consists of software, a capture card, and cables. A live switcher, SDI connections, and Genlock are options.

The basic Video Toaster 2 package costs $2995. An upgrade from Version 1 costs $495. The SX-8 Switcher, which increases connectivity options, sells for $1995. A dual-standard NTSC/PAL version of Toaster ] is available for $3495. (NewTek; www.newtek.com) -JD
