At Siggraph 2001 in Los Angeles, the Standard Performance Evaluation Corp.'s Graphics Performance Characterization (SPEC/GPC) group plans to release a Version 7.0 of its SPECviewperf benchmark tests for digital content creation and CAD/CAM applications.

The new tests have been updated to better reflect how current applications handle graphics rendering.

In addition to the updated core viewperf suite, new test files for Discreet's 3ds max and PTC's Pro/Engineer will be introduced, as well as a revised SolidWorks 2001 benchmark.

Quadro2 Pro Takes the Lead in Lightscape Tests

Here are the 10 workstation and graphics card combinations that most recently received the best scores for the Lightscape (Light-04) subset of the SPECviewperf 6.1.2 benchmarks. The Lightscape viewset, which consists of walkthroughs in four differently rendered environments, is designed to simulate global illumination effects.

The mean scores represent the combined, weighted results of the tests, measured in the number of frames per second the machines were able to execute. The larger the number, the better the score. To see other test results, visit www.spec.org/gpc.
