Fluent Offers Enhanced Engine Simulation

Fluent 5.5 also features a new algorithm for particle-path integration that will improve particle-tracking accuracy. In addition, users can now work with up to 50 (the previous limit was 20) species transport equations-critical for finite-rate chemical reaction mechanisms. And Fluent now offers access to residuals for all solution variables-useful for troubleshooting non-convergence and divergence.

With regard to file import and export, meshes can now be imported into Fluent in CFD General Notational System, and the software can export data and results to CGNS format as well. Two additional export formats are Ansys and Abaqus.

Fluent 5.5 runs on Unix machines with a minimum of 128mb of RAM and 100mb of disk space, and Windows NT/2000 machines with a minimum of 64mb of RAM and 30mb of disk space. In order to use the GT-Power coupling capability, users need a special license and library, both available from Gamma Technologies. The cost of Fluent 5.5 varies according to configuration. A typical entry-level price for a two-process license is $27,000. (Fluent; www.fluent.com) -JD
