New Flat Panels, Flat Screens from CTX

The Vivid LCD Flat Panel product group features both PC- and Macintosh-compatible active-matrix displays in 15-, 17-, and 18-inch versions. The high-end member of the family is the 18-inch PV880, which has an 18.1-inch viewable area, SXGA resolution of 1280 by 1024 (1024 by 768 for the Macintosh platform), and a 75hz refresh rate. According to the company, these features, plus the monitor's super-wide viewing angle and the availability of one upstream and four downstream USB hubs, make it suitable for high-resolution applications. The PV880 costs $3199.

The company's Professional PureFlat Series comprises PC- and Mac-compatible flat-screen CRTs in 15-, 17-, 19-, and 21-inch versions. Each is based on FD Trinitron CRT technology, which was incorporated to improve color saturation and image quality. The 21-inch PR1400F is the highest performing monitor in this family, with a maximum resolution of 2048 by 1536 at 77hz (1600 by 1200 recommended). This $999 monitor is also Macintosh compatible at resolutions up to 1152 by 870.

CTX's 15- and 17-inch flat panels cost $999 and $1799 respectively. Prices for flat-screen monitors that measure less than 21 inches range from $219 for the 15-inch version to $649 for the 19-inch unit. (CTX International; www.ctxintl.com) -JD
