Although Chou's interest and talent for fine art surfaced at a young age, she did not receive any formal training until later in her career. "My mother thought that creativity is the spirit of an art," she says. "So she encouraged me to use my own methods to express my creativity and imagination." After traveling the world and experiencing its various cultures and customs, the artist arrived in America, where she discovered the power that technology and computers could offer as she pursued her artistic endeavors. "I found that computers could be used as tools to fully express our imagination and the spirit of beauty," she explains.
Chou has since received formal computer graphics and animation training, but she has not lost her artistic spirit. She continues to express her original dreams and visions through works that are full of emotion yet reflect the style of traditional fine art. "To me, the computer is a paintbrush with unlimited possibilities that further adds to my ability to create," she says. "I can work with very fine details and with different layers of color schemes." Unlike many computer artists, she does not incorporate scanned photo graphs, sketches, or pictures into her works. Instead, she relies on her professional drawing skills and her ability to translate those through the use of various computer programs. To create her art, Chou uses Adobe Systems' Illustrator and Photoshop, along with Corel's Painter, running on a Windows NT platform.
