Bigpoint Founder Encourages Cross-platform Game Development
In his opening keynote at LGC 2010, entitled “The Future of Online Games,” Bigpoint’s Heiko Hubertz stated: “It’s not rocket science to understand why online games like Farmville have been so massively successful: They have localized global distribution and relatively low development costs, and this is exactly why they will continue to be the blueprint for profitable games development.
“When it comes to the future of gaming,” he continues, “do not make the mistake of throwing everything at one platform, and especially not if that platform is Facebook--you’ll only create a very dangerous dependency. Remember that quality and cross-platform development is king. You need to make it possible for users to play the same character in the same game on different platforms and interact with them in real-time.”
This year’s LGC is the final event in a month-long London Games Festival and will end with a closing keynote from Ed Vaizey, minister for culture.
LGC 2010 is supported by platinum sponsor IGN, and gold sponsors The Hut, AGI, InComm, Virgin Gaming, Multiplay, and freeform.London.
