Nominations announced for 81st annual Golden Globes

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced the official nominees for the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards (https://goldenglobes.com/). Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne opened the official announcement event, with Cedric “The Entertainer” and Wilmer Valderrama reading the nominations in 27 categories across film and television.
Warner Brothers’ Barbie led the film categories with a total of nine nominations, followed closely by Universal’s Oppenheimer with a total of eight. Apple’s Killers of the Flower Moon and Searchlight’s Poor Things each received seven, and and A24’s Past Lives followed with five.

HBO’s Succession topped the television categories with a total of nine nominations. FX’s The Bear and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building followed with five nominations each.

Overall, the film categories were led by Netflix with 13 nominations, Warner Brothers with 12, and A24 and Universal with 11 each.

In the television categories, HBO/Max led with 17 nominations, and Netflix followed closely with 15.

This year, the Golden Globes is under new leadership and an expanded voting body of 300 individuals in 75 countries. The awards lineup features 25 returning categories and two new ones: Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement (CBOA) in Motion Pictures.

The CBOA award recognizes movies that earned $150 million or more at the box office, or equivalent viewing numbers in streaming. Voters selected eight nominees based on artistry and excellence.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards will take place January 7, 2024, at the Beverly Hilton, where it has been hosted since 1961. The ceremony will air live on CBS and will also be streamed on Paramount+ and be available on the CBS app, starting at 5:00 p.m. PT.
