Full Sail Grads Feel the Oscar Love

WINTER PARK, FL — More than 100 Full Sail University (www.fullsail.edu) graduates are credited with work on 22 Oscar-nominated films. The projects span 20 categories.

Academy Award winner and Full Sail University graduate Garry Rizzo was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Achievement in Sound Mixing category for his work on Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. (Whiplash received the top prize.) This was Rizzo’s fourth Oscar nomination in the same category. He has previously been recognized for his work on The Incredibles and The Dark Knight, and won the Oscar for his work on Inception.

Full Sail graduates worked on films nominated in categories that include Best Picture, Best Animated Feature, Best Visual Effects, Best Editing, and Best Sound Mixing, among others. Some of the films its graduates contributed to include Interstellar, Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, America Sniper, Whiplash, and Guardians of the Galaxy. In fact, this year, graduates worked on five of the eight nominees for Best Picture.

“It is great to see so many of our graduates accomplish their goals of working in the film industry,” says Anne C. Russell, Full Sail University program director of film. “We are proud of their continued determination and excellence, and are excited to celebrate this remarkable achievement with them.”
