2015 Daytime Emmy Award Winners Announced

The children’s animated stop-motion series  Tumble Leaf  has made quite an impression on viewers and critics alike since debuting on Amazon. Most recently, it hit a high note with Emmy voters, picking up five awards at the 42 nd annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

The show received an award for Outstanding Preschool Children’s Animated Program. In addition, the show garnered four individual achievements: Michael Granberry, lead animator; Drew Hodges, character design; Jason Kolowski, production design; and Robyn Yanoukos, colorist.

Tumble Leaf is a stop-motion animated series augmented with CGI. Aimed at preschoolers, it is part of new, original content that debuted on Amazon.com. The star of the series is a blue fox puppet named Fig, who lives on a large ship grounded on a whimsical island that invites adventure. In each episode, Fig discovers an object inside a treasure chest, known as his “finding place,” and then he and one or two of his friends embark on a journey of discovery associated with that item.

The series is the brainchild of Animation Director Drew Hodges and Bix Pix Entertainment, a Sun Valley, California, animation studio primarily focused on stop-motion mixed media. Each episode is 24 minutes long and airs as a pair of 12-minute stories.

Another streamed animated series, DreamWorks Animation Television’s All Hail King Julien, which is available on Netflix, picked up several awards including Outstanding Children’s Animated Program. Moonbot Studios’ Silent, a short film for Dolby that was submitted as a YouTube project, received two awards. These accolades signify a growing trend for non-network animation projects.

The annual Daytime Emmy Awards recognize outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television production and are presented to individuals and programs broadcast during the 2014 calendar year. In addition, Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards were given in recognition of outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television production and are presented to individuals and programs broadcast from 2 am to 6 pm during the 2014 calendar year.
