Los Angeles, Calif. - Slamdance, an international independent film festival, and Adobe Systems Incorporated announced the first annual Re-Cut Film Competition open to emerging editing talent worldwide, including film students in higher education. Entrants will have the opportunity to re-edit a scene from the indie classic MALL COP by Palm d'Or winning filmmaker and GREY’s ANATOMY editor David Greenspan.

All participants who submit an entry will receive a copy of Adobe Premiere Pro Creative Suite 5 education software. Three finalists will be rewarded with a copy of Adobe Production Premium CS5 education software, and the grand prize winner will also earn a free trip to Slamdance 2011 to see their work screened at the festival in Park City, Utah.

Greenspan got his first big break by premiering the short film BEAN CAKE at Slamdance, after which it went on to win the Palm d'Or at Cannes, the highest prize awarded to competing films at the Cannes Film Festival. Ever since this success, David has remained part of the Slamdance community.

“The advice I would give to the students entering the re-cut competition is to feel free to think outside the box and experiment. Don't necessarily be stuck to the script. Feel free to try out all type of different editing styles, sound effects, and music choices,” said David Greenspan.

Competition registration is now open and closes on Oct. 1, 2010. Completed edits must be submitted by Oct. 29, 2010. Members of Adobe Systems, Slamdance, and David Greenspan will judge re-cut submissions.
