Globalstor ExtremeStor-4K Demonstrated with Avantcam Workflow

Paris, France – The ExtremeStor-4K from Globalstor Data Corp., an OEM integrator of high-performance RAID, SAN, and storage/video servers, was included in demonstrations of the Scratch data workflow and postproduction tool suite from Assimilate at the SIEL SATIS 2009 show in Paris.

Avantcam demonstrated the workflow on an HD SDI monitor using the Globalstor ExtremeStor-4K workstation incorporating an Nvidia Quadro FX 5800 SDI by PNY graphics board and Assimilate Scratch Version 5.0 software. The ExtremeStor-4K handled the real-time playback of uncompressed 4K image content for the demo. Globalstor's use of new SSD drive technology, which can process extremely large, uncompressed file sizes in real time and requires fewer individual drives, enables a groundbreaking level of playback performance in a small-form factor, says a representative.

The ExtremeStor-4K system specified by Avantcam for the demos runs on Windows 7 at 64bps and comes preconfigured with 12 or 24 SSD drives in hot-swap trays. It offers 10 slots on the chassis, with seven actual PCI-E x16 slots on the board, all of which can be accessed and utilized.

The Globalstor workstation enables support of more graphics and i/o boards than ever, including the Nvidia Quadro FX by PNY series, RED Rocket, and Bluefish444, among others.

“The innovative design of the ExtremeStor-4K is going to change the way the industry works with 4K content,” says Scott Leif, president of Globalstor Data Corp. “Not only does it offer uniquely robust architecture, scalability, and reliability, but it does so with the ease-of-use of a compact tower design that can also be rack-mounted. It is going to make 4K much more accessible to a wider range of users.”

Says Basile Glaize, CEO and founder of Avantcam Di-dea: “The ExtremeStor-4K’s flawless real-time playback of high-resolution 4K files and its muscular hardware design gives us the high-quality, high-impact visuals to truly make this demonstration at hit for show attendees.”

ExtremeStor-4K, the next generation of Globalstor ‘s acclaimed ExtremeStor-DI REDe video storage workstation, is the first to offer native, uncompressed 4K resolution playback for professionals who work with digital intermediate (DI) and RED digital cinema content. Featuring a capacity range of 1.4TB to 9TB, it is available in rack and tower versions.
