CHIFOO and Cascade SIGGRAPH Present Bill Buxton’s Design Thinking: Action and Ecosystem

Portland, Ore. - CHIFOO (Computer-Human Interaction Forum of Oregon), Oregon and Southwest Washington's local SIGCHI chapter, and Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH, Oregon and Southwest Washington's local SIGGRAPH chapter, announced that designer, author, and researcher of human aspects of technology Bill Buxton will present "Design Thinking: Action and Ecosystem,€VbCrLf beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, at the World Trade Center Auditorium (Bridge Level) in downtown Portland. Prior to the presentation, Buxton will host a public book signing reception from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Powell's Technical Books, located at 33 N.W. Park Ave.

"Design Thinking€VbCrLf discusses meta-design, playing on the notion that perhaps the most important things that we design are our culture, design environment and working methods -- our design ecosystem -- rather than any particular product that emerges from it.

Buxton is the author of the book, Sketching User Experiences: Getting the Design Right and the Right Design, now in its second printing and published by Morgan Kaufmann. He is a Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research and has a 30-year involvement in research, design, and commentary around human aspects of technology and technologies for creative endeavor, including music, film, and industrial design. Prior to joining Microsoft, he was a researcher at Xerox PARC, a professor at the University of Toronto, and Chief Scientist of Alias Research and Silicon Graphics Inc. In 2007, Buxton was named Doctor of Design, Honoris Causa, by the Ontario College of Art and Design, and in 2008 he became the 10th recipient of the ACM/SIGCHI Lifetime Achievement Award for fundamental contributions to the field of human-computer interaction.
