American Film Institute Film Festival to Feature Full Apple-based Editing Operation

Culver City, Calif. - Runway, the Culver City-based editorial rental company, is providing the American Film Institute with editorial systems and support to keep film fans informed of everything happening at its 21st Annual AFI Film Fest. The festival runs from November 1 through 11 in Los Angeles.
A supplier of state-of-the-art editorial technology, Runway has set up and is maintaining a complete and sophisticated editorial operation for AFI that includes six Final Cut Pro editing workstations and a 7-terabyte Apple Xsan storage system.
AFI will use the gear to produce short video features through the run of the festival, encompassing filmmaker interviews, sponsor loops, trailers, red carpet events, panel discussions, parties, and other happenings. The media will be posted to AFI’s Website and distributed to broadcast media, often within 24 hours.

In addition to the systems and equipment being used, the gear will be housed at one of Runway’s sister companies, iO Film. Located across the street from The Arclight Cinemas (AFI’s home base during the festival), iO Film is so close to the action that it proves invaluable to turn around time in producing festival content. This is the second consecutive year that Runway has supported AFI and what is considered one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals.

Two of the six editing workstations will be dedicated solely to ingesting media into the Xsan and outputting edited segments. The other four workstations will be manned by editors working around the clock.

Additional support is being provided to the festival by other sister companies of Runway, specifically Lightning Media and The Post Group. Lightning Media is providing conversion and duplication services, while The Post Group is providing film transfer and color correction services as well as video decks and related gear.
