FilmLight Upgrades Baselight

FilmLight is also introducing a new version of its non-linear colour grading system, Baselight,at a price of $95,000 that includes full support for the latest file-based workflows from capture to finish. The company is also previewing its Baselight 4.2 software, which includes unique and highly innovative tools for stereoscopic 3D grading.

In tandem with Sony, FilmLight will use its Truelight On-Set and Baselight systems to demonstrate the speed, quality, and infrastructure costsaving benefits of the new Sony HDCAM‑SR file-based workflows including native support for the MPEG-4 Simple Studio Profile (SStP) codec.

FilmLight is also announcing new sales to leading postproduction companies worldwide, including:
  • The Mill, New York, which is adding a second Baselight FOUR to its commercials workflow.
  • LaserPacific Media, which is adding as second Baselight EIGHT to its industry-leading 4K film mastering workflow (whose recent successes included re-masters of Saving Private Ryan and Gladiator).
  • Oktobor, the Auckland-based Omnilab affiliate, which is expanding into high-end color grading for commercials via Baselight FOUR.
  • Kodak which has purchased a Baselight FOUR and a Northlight 2 as part of an expansion of its DI resources at Kodak Cinelab, Europe.
  • Imagica, which has selected Baselight FOUR to anchor a Digital Intermediate suite at its Tokyo Imaging Centre.
