Facilis Launches TerraBlock 4.1 with Cross-platform Direct Ethernet Connectivity

Amsterdam - Facilis Technology, provider of shared media storage technology for postproduction and content creation, is demonstrating TerraBlock 4.1 with direct Ethernet support for Windows and OS X at IBC in Amsterdam. This release is the latest Facilis Shared File System, first shipped for Windows fibre-channel clients in June 2009.
With the 4.1 release, standard 1Gbit Ethernet clients can access Facilis Virtual Volumes in Multi-user Write mode (file-level) directly, without the need for a bridge server. Ethernet connectivity removes the need for client-side hardware upgrades, and fibre channel infrastructure for clients using compressed HD or standard definition video. This feature set can be used in conjunction with high-performance 8Gbit fibre-channel connectivity on the same network, and the same Virtual Volume.

In traditional Single-user Write mode, TerraBlock provides HD 4:4:4 and 2K DPX playback simultaneous with collaborative Multi-user Write project and media sharing capabilities. Volumes may be designated as Single-user or Multi-user Write..

TerraBlock 4.1 is planned for release in early Q4, followed by the OS X fibre-channel release in late Q4. With concurrent direct Ethernet and fibre-channel connectivity, TerraBlock shared storage has one of the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) for postproduction facilities in the television, film, graphics content creation, encoding, and digital distribution sectors.
