Allegorithmic's Substance Engine Available on PlayStation 4

Category: GDC
CLERMONT-FERRAND, France – Allegorithmic, creators of the gaming industry’s advanced parametric texturing solution, has announced a customized version of its Substance engine specifically designed for Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation 4 game development platform. With this engine, the console’s next-gen games can unleash runtime generation of parametric textures, allowing game developers to reduce download size, boost streaming performance and decrease loading times in their games.

"Productivity, instant play and heavy data streaming will be critical thresholds for next-gen game development,"said Dr. Sébastien Deguy, founder and CEO of Allegorithmic. "Substance's unique runtime component and substantially smaller file sizes tackle these massive issues head on with the aid of a powerful toolset that is already used by more than 3,000 game developers."

Substance's new compatibility with PlayStation 4 extends the reach of a technology that is already integrated into 3D development tools like Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya, and industry-standard game engines like Unity 3D, Unreal Engine 3, and UDK. Noteworthy Substance proponents include: Electronic Arts, Activision, Ubisoft, Square-Enix, 2K Games and Namco-Bandai.
